Grow Light for Citrus Tree: 3 Key Features to Look For

Yes you can successfully grow fresh citrus fruit anywhere in the US year-round. You just need a great citrus grow light to grow a healthy citrus tree at home.

Growing and maintaining your own citrus plants at home can be a fun and rewarding process. More and more people are opting for home gardening and urban gardening so they can be more sustainable and have the ability to provide their own fresh fruit for their families.

Some people don't have the luxury of keeping their plants outdoors. Whether they're in small apartments without yards or they're in a place that gets or stays too cold for citrus plants, they just don't have the ability to let their plants thrive.

They need a grow light for a citrus tree to grow successfully.

There are so many options for grow lights, how do you know when you're picking the right one?

We're here to help guide you. Keep reading to learn more about what makes a good grow light for your indoor citrus tree.

1. The Most Up-to-Date Technology

Grow lights have been around for a long time. This means that there are plenty of options for your grow light, but are they all good ones?

While tried and true grow lights can work just fine, they might not be ideal for your grapefruit, lime, or lemon tree. Different plants require different types of grow lights, and what works fine for a common indoor flower or herb garden may not be suitable for something else like a fruit.

While many grow lights are made from metal or plastic, new ceramic grow lights may be a better option for plants that need ample light to thrive.

Modern lights also conserve energy better than older ones making them great for anyone who's trying to be eco-conscious and lower their carbon footprint.

2. Full-Spectrum Lighting

An indoor lemon tree or any other type of citrus tree requires a lot of light to thrive. These plants are common in hot and sunny areas like Florida and California, so they need light and heat to simulate that environment.

Full-spectrum lighting is going to give your plants the full range of UV lighting that best simulates the sunlight that they'd be getting outdoors. This also means that it's the most ideal artificial light for every stage of the plant's growth. If you can't have your plant outside or in a greenhouse, this is the best simulation.

3. Safety

You want your grow lights to be safe for you and your plants. Attaching grow lights to their appropriate stands can be tricky, and you don't want to harm yourself or do it incorrectly making it less useful for your plants.

Ensure that your grow light has safety measures included if you want to protect yourself.

Our Grow Light Recommendation

We love SANSI 24W LED grow lights. They have a clean white light because they are full spectrum. They have all the right mix of light spectrum for growth, leaf flush, flower blossoming, and fruit set. 24 watts is a good amount of power for indoor lighting. We recommend placing the grow light anywhere from 6 to 18 inches away from your tree.

Your tree needs 12-16 hours of light a day. You can be very flexible with your light. You can keep it on for many days straight. However, all citrus trees need some dark time.

You can easily use one grow light for 1-3 trees. An easy way is to use one light on a tree for 24 hours at a time.

All grow lights get hot. We prefer SANSI because they use ceramic sinks to dissipate the heat. We have found the majority of grow lights on Amazon to have disturbing safety profiles. Use standard safety precautions, don't let babies and pets stare directly into the light or touch the heat from the grow light!

Our socket/clamp Recommendation:

We recommend the following clamp for your tree. It has a UL certified socket, electrical cord included as well. And it fits the Sansi bulb!
