The Story Behind It

All navel oranges trace back to a single mutation from a sweet orange tree. This mutation caused the tree to produce seedless fruit with a small, undeveloped “twin” orange inside—the belly button. And every navel is seedless and sterile.

The N-33, however, has its own uniquely Texan chapter. In the Rio Grande Valley, a Marrs Orange orchard produced something extraordinary. In one row of Marrs trees, the 33rd tree showed a natural mutation: it was a navel orange. This single discovery—tree number 33—gave rise to the N-33 Navel Orange, combining the legendary sweetness of the Marrs with the seedless convenience of navels.

Today, the N-33 is one of the sweetest and most reliable navel oranges grown in Texas, cherished for its flavor and its story.
